yes, Internet is matter of fact required, at least the first time.
What firmware have you updated, the USB 3.0 controller of your mainboard? If so, yes, that is in some cases necessary as USB 3.0 has been developed further and older driver versions can’t handle “newer” USB 3.0 devices.
