Guide to which Tobii SDK to use
Tobii has a collection of different software development kits (SDKs) that provide you as a developer with a rich array of tools to easily and effectively create amazing applications that use eye tracking.
Begin with defining what you want to do
We broadly distinguish between “Gaze Interaction Use” and “Analytical Use” of eye tracking data, in the following manner:
I want to develop an application that uses eye tracking for Gaze Interaction
Gaze Interaction Use is where eye tracking data is used as a user input for interactive experiences in games or other software.
I want to develop an application that uses eye tracking for Analytical Use
Analytical Use is where eye tracking data is either (a) stored; or (b) transferred to another computing device or network; in both cases where the intent is to use or make it possible to use eye tracking data to analyze, record, visualize or interpret behavior or attention.
Analytical Use of eye tracking data may be sensitive. At Tobii, we take a firm stance in protecting the privacy of our users. Therefore, you must either use specific SDKs when you develop applications for Analytical Use, or obtain specific license and approval from Tobii. Specifically, our Tobii Pro SDK is intended as the main SDK for you to use to create applications that make Analytical Use of eye tracking data. Applications developed using the Tobii Pro SDK are compatible with Tobii Pro eye tracker hardware, as well as with consumer devices with Tobii eye tracking in combination with a specific license key. Please contact Tobii Pro for more info on such license keys at www.tobiipro.com/contact.
We also offer other licensing mechanisms to selected partners – please contact SDKlicensing@tobii.com if you want to discuss your situation.
